If we use Apple watch deep sleep metrics, most people are not getting the correct healthy % of time in deep sleep. Deep sleep should be 16-33% of total sleep. So the average apple watch user is only getting BARELY enough deep sleep as % of total sleep. We are not talking about total sleep AMOUNT in deep.

I highly suspect the apple watch algorithm is wrong when it comes to proper deep sleep so it just chalks up everything in "Core" sleep rather than calling it light sleep.

Agreed. This article relies entirely on Apple Watch data without questioning whether that data is accurate. This is a major issue since few if any sleep researchers consider any watch or ring to be a solid source for tracking sleep stages.

The other issue not addressed in this article is what should be the correct amount of any sleep stage. I’ve read a few different percentages in numerous reports (which is further complicated by age, health, medication, and other factors).
